Watering Techniques Matter....

It's not uncommon for North Texas to experience brutal summers. Scorching triple digit temps and little to no rain makes for brown, crispy and crunch lawn. Your lawn doesn't have to suffer though.

One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make is watering for a few minutes every day. Although better than not watering at all, it's not doing much to help. Throw in the inevitable watering restrictions and you really want to make sure you make your watering count.

The proper way to water is known as a soak cycle and can be achieved whether you have an in ground irrigation system or not. Watering correctly is a huge impact on the quality of your lawn. It forces your grass roots to reach deeper into he soil for the moisture which makes your grass strong, more resilient and withstand heat much better. This should be done twice a week. Also, watering should never be done in the evening/night. This promotes disease and fungus to take over.

In Ground Irrigation - Most controller have an A, B and C timer. Set timer A to start between 5am and 6am. Each zone should be ran for about 15 mins. Set timer B to run about half an hour later AFTER timer A has finished. So for example, if you have 5 zones set to run at 15 mins each and start at 6am, that will take about an hour and 15 minutes ending at 7:15am. This means that timer B should be scheduled to run at 7:15.

Water Hose w/ Sprinkler - You can purchase a smart timer that is connected to the faucet and the water hose is then connected to that smart timer. The timer will allow you to setup a schedule very much like that of an in ground irrigation controller.

One last option is to upgrade your irrigation controller to a smart controller. Smart controllers can do this automatically, alter your schedule for you based on weather conditions and change your watering needs based on the season as well.

This is a proven watering method that can keep your lawn green even through our brutal summer weather.
